Tycoonism “Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibility… in the final analysis, the one quality that all successful people have… is the ability to take on responsibility.”

May 21, 2009

One of the greatest pieces of information that I have integrated into my way of thinking is the principle of taking 100% Responsibility for the direction of my life. With this new learned reality I have come to the understanding that life is not just happening to me I have an active responsibility that I have to man up to.

Our lives were never meant to be a play in which we are only actors, running around reading a script written by someone else. Even though some people allow this, we must remember it is of their own making. I have come to the understanding that I am the author and director of what I experience in my physical reality. This is not in anyway discounting my religious belief in an infinite creator. I have just entered the enlightenment that our creator has given us responsibility for the direction of our lives that many prefer not to have and others choose to ignore.

The word Responsible is made up of two words, response and able. To say that I am 100% responsible for my life simply means that I have come to the place were I am able to respond correctly. Many of the bad situations that we have dealt with in life would have gone totally different if we would have been better mentally equipped to take responsibility for our actions and thought life.

The state of mind that causes us to take responsibility is hard for many people because of what we call ego. Ego is an inflated view of ones self-worth. When ego is left unattended we can get to the place were we error in our thinking and believe that we can do no wrong. When we come to this place and things start to go wrong in our life our only means of justification is to blame forces outside of self.

One of the factors in learning to be responsible or able to respond correctly is to learn to respond to current situations in the present tense. This means that you deal with what is at hand using your present understanding of the situation and not allowing your past experiences, fears or insecurities to be an influence. Many times the only reason that we are not able to respond correctly is because we keep evaluating our present situations with these past experiences, fears and insecurities. So what happens is we go in full of defeating thoughts.

As with any thing that we neglect to do in life there will be penalties that we must pay. When we are not willing to respond correctly we will quickly gain a reputation for being irresponsible. When you find a person that is not response/able you will find a person that is quick to blame others. This state of denial is a result of ego never allowing them to process a situation independent of their erroneous view of self. This unquestionably leaves the person in a state of not being able to see great improve in any area of life.

Blame paralyzes you. When you are constantly blaming outside forces for the way things are you are giving up your control. Dr. Wayne Dyer says that you are a victim any time you find yourself out of control of your life. Blaming others for the way that your life is gives them control.

If you are to experience any level of success and happiness in your life you have to stop using all of the victim stories that ultimately lead to you giving away your control. Successful people are people that demand to be in control. I am not talking about being in control of things are other people. they demand the right to be in control of their own lives. You can start the process of taking 100% Responsibility for your life by making a list of everything in your life that you know you should be in control of.

  • No one made you work on the job your on, it was your choice.
  • No one can make you stay in the neighborhood you live in, it is your choice.
  • No one made you marry the person you are married to, it was your choice.

This list could go on for ever, but I think you get the picture. Taking responsibility starts with you catching yourself each time you desire to blame outside sources for the way your life is. Where you are today is a result of your choices yesterday and where you will be tomorrow will be a result of your choices today.

The next step in being a person that is 100% Responsible is to come to the understanding that our past only exist in our mind. It is very important that we make this an active part of our thinking. If our pasts exist only in our mind we have to know that it has no power over us in this present reality unless we give it away. A large part of responding correctly to situations as they unfold is for us to be living in the present moment and not in some day dream of our past experiences. Weather it is a success or failure that we have had in the past it has no real bearing on our present circumstances and the choices that need to be made. So my advice to you is get rid of your past!  You can begin today taking 100% responsibility for your life. It may take a little time and practice to put this teaching into place, but it is worth it in the long run.

  • Be mindful of your thoughts of blame and be willing to change.
  • Be mindful of anytime that you are not in control of your life.
  • Ask yourself who you would be if you were 100% responsible for your life.
